Match versus Nags

Our annual match against the NAGs moved to a new venue (Burhill Golf Club) and a new date (a very wet Wednesday in October), but the result remained the same - a 5-1 scoreline that saw IPAGs retain the trophy for a third consecutive year.

While the scoreline might appear one-sided, the match itself was anything but. Captain Niel Bornman and his partner Austin Saunders were on the receiving end of a dog licence (click here if you don’t get the reference), while three of the remaining five matches went down the last hole on Burhill’s Old Course.

Thankfully IPAGS emerging triumphant in all three, leading to a 5-1 lead that rendered the 9-hole afternoon foresomes matches irrelevant (each match only being worth half a point). Given the relentless rain, both sides were happy to retire to the dining room in Burhill’s splendid clubhouse to enjoy a well-earned meal and several bottles of club claret.
