Our 2026 season got underway under glorious blue skies, with a full field assembled at The Berkshire to tackle the Red Course and it’s unique combination of six par three, six par fours and six par fives.

Scoring conditions looked benign, helped by some temporary tees that helped turn fearsome par fours into driveable birdie chances. But the anticipated points frenzy failed to materialise, and a relatively modest score of 39 points was enough to see Jimmy Butchart claim the Lionel Jackson Trophy on a countback from Katy Wright, Ruth Zohrer and Phillip Hayman.

Hayman had to settle for the Mitchell Spring Trophy for the lowest gross score - a five-over par 77 being enough to triumph by a single shot from perennial prize hoarder John Farrell, while Luca Young took home the Guest Stableford honours.

Scoring in the afternoon greensomes on the Blue Course was much better, perhaps reflecting the benefits of a the clubs’s famous lunch and excellent wine list. Butchart looked like claiming a double with partner Jack Stanbridge, but an incredible birdie birdie finish saw Harry Shaw and Tim Wakeham rack up seven stableford points on the final two holes to claim the prize on countback.
